When you are looking at homes for sale what do you bring with you? A lot of people go viewing homes empty handed. Is a home inspection checklist really necessary?
Homer Buyer and Ivana Newhouse went looking at homes one Saturday. They had already looked through three rooms of a house when they got to the master bathroom. They suddenly realized they were looking at the same house they saw the weekend before.
Homer and Ivana had seen so many homes lately that it was hard to keep them straight. Have you ever felt that way?
They needed a system to keep track of all the homes they had seen.
They talked it over and came up with a plan. A home inspection checklist became a part of their system. They also included the following information:
- Property address
- List Price
- Contact information
- Number of Bedrooms
- Photos
- List of likes and dislikes
They bought a file box that they could keep in the car with hanging file folders. They created a separate file for each property they visited.
The home inspection checklist was very helpful to make sure they didn’t overlook any potential problems with the property. It would also give them a list of negotiating points if they decided to make an offer on the property.
They also took a digital camera with them so they could get photos of features they liked or things that needed to be fixed.
From that point on, Homer and Ivana were organized in their search. They had a plan whenever they went viewing properties.
